Regroup Successfully Delivers Millions of Alerts During the Annual Great ShakeOut

Regroup Mass Notification effectively delivered more than 2.3 million alerts during the 10th Annual Great ShakeOut, a global earthquake simulation aimed to improve earthquake preparedness and response. The event, which took place on Oct. 18, included more than 23 million registered participants from around the globe.

The five-minute Great ShakeOut drill is a global event where organizations, businesses, governments, and individuals rehearse earthquake response best practices. The event served to test technological advances, and as a reminder for participants to follow the agreed-upon “drop, cover, and hold on” course of action to ensure maximum safety during a seismic event.

Regroup has been at the forefront of earthquake safety and emergency preparedness since 2014. An early partnership with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the ShakeAlert program enabled Regroup to provide alerts for the first-ever automated, multilingual early earthquake warning notification system in the United States.

“In the moments preceding an earthquake, every second of advance warning makes a measurable difference in people’s safety,” said Chris Utah, COO of Regroup. “Having a robust and reliable platform to send alerts to millions of people in seconds is crucial to saving lives and minimizing damage.”

He added, “Regroup will continue to work with the USGS and ShakeAlert to optimize a solution that´s intuitive, efficient, and can reach people quickly before shaking starts in their area.”
